In conjunction with the national nonprofit organization
Rails-to-Trails, Sarasota County has created recreational paved pathways from former rail lines.
Now labeled the , you can rollerblade, walk and peddle from Sarasotas Clark Road all the way to
Caspersen Beach. Folks flock to
not just because its at the end of the road, but its "the prime" location to unearth fossilized teeth of
ancient sharks. And, dont forget to visit the historical downtown of where boutiques and shops beckon you to browse and sidewalk eateries offer a bite to eat.
The eighteen mile paved trail also travels through Oscar Scherer State Park... so bring a set of binoculars as wildlife
viewing is excellent for... gopher tortoises, foxes, bobcats and scrub jays. Rest areas and signage with historical
facts are strategically placed along the way with plenty of natural beauty including water views from trestle bridges
over Donna and Roberts Bays.
In summer months, sunscreen and plenty of water are highly recommended.
