Sarasota County, already a training ground for athletes
from around the world, is becoming one of the premier rowing destinations in North America.
Nathan Benderson Park hosted its first regattas in 2009; Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association State Championships
and the 44th Annual Florida Scholastic Rowing Association State Championships, attracting more than 10,000 spectators
and participants. Since 2009, the regattas and various recreational events have continued to grow in success and
popularity.
Competitive rowing is one of the hottest amateur sports in the country and Sarasota Countys Nathan Benderson Park is
quickly gaining a stellar reputation in the rowing community. This years rowing schedule promises to bring another
exciting season. Some of the best amateur athletes from across the country will once again come to Sarasota County to
battle for the gold.
The features of the lake in Nathan Benderson Park includes a 2000-metercourse, a straight shoreline perfect for viewing
and enclosed fresh water with no current. Combined with easy access from I-75 (exit 213), balmy weather and nearby
hotels, Sarasota is staged to become one of the top rowing destinations in the world.
