The Annual Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix Festival takes
place each summer in late June/early July and usually includes Independence Day weekend.
Sarasotas Off-Shore Racing history is the longest in the nation and for over twenty-five years, has collected more
than $14 million for local charities.
With speeds upward of 170 mph, these catamaran and vee-bottom boats are some 50 feet long and are powered by four
engines producing 4,800 horsepower.
Festivities include "local" contests between recreational-style crafts that often serve as a training base,
or farm league, for the larger, "professional" classes.
Spectators can get as close as 100 feet to the race boats on or anchor their own boats in the middle of... "the infield". Spectators who don't want to
fight traffic can enjoy "flag to flag" coverage on a Jumbotron television under a large tent at Powerboats By The Bay,
at Centennial Park.
Highlights vary, but generally include a kickoff party, a parade of boats and our Bayfront Fireworks Spectacular.
