Blessed with the worlds finest whitest beaches, Sarasotas
cosmopolitan appeal has garnered international recognition, as having an abundance of cultural achievement.
Once home to the Greatest Show on Earth, John Ringling became the catalyst for Sarasotas notoriety as people from
around the globe flocked to join his three ring show, back in 1927.
After traveling the world, John and his wife left the city a treasure-trove of art and architectural magnificence
including their bay-front Venetian style home the Ca d Zan and the internationally acclaimed Ringling Museum of Art.
In addition to a massive collection of Rubens, the Museum recently unveiled a most important structural piece...
"Skyspace" by artist James Turrell.
Every fall, the cultural season rekindles with the advent of Sarasotas International Arts Festival. Under the direction
of Mikhail Baryshnikov and New Yorks Baryshnikov Arts Center, the Ringling Museums tranquil 66 acre waterfront comes
alive with a full week of cutting-edge innovation
be it music, theatre, dance and the visual arts.
Also on the Ringling campus is the Asolo multi-theatre complex, home to one of the leading regional theatrical companies.
The stages provide a season of classic and modern drama that include year round performances by the Florida State
Universitys graduate theatre program.
Interested in tomorrows virtuosos? Under the tutelage of renowned violinist, Itzhak Perlman, "Gifted" student
musicians from around the world gather in Sarasota for a two week winter residency. Its a "FREE Holiday Gift"
to music lovers... for they are welcome to attend... all practices and performances... at the University of South
Floridas Sarasota/Manatee Campus.
Offering seven world class productions, The Sarasota Ballet of Florida performs from September through April while the
Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Opera present their Winter Opera Festival with four fully staged operas from February
through March.
The downtowns waterfront is the backdrop for Sarasotas "Season of Sculpture" where global artists are
reviewed and invited to join a select group each fall for a six month installation.
Sarasotas Chalk Festival is the first in the U.S. attracting International street artists to dazzle the crowds with
three dimensional illusions that pop from the pavement.
Beyond Sarasotas rich culture there are over 10 area attractions, 1000 holes of golf, two state parks, superb fishing,
boating, and a variety of nature outlets. Peak season begins in February and continues through Easter when reservations
are absolutely necessary. The value season begins June through September.
Thank YOU for considering OUR slice of paradise!
Who knows, you may even contemplate living here.
